With an autumn chill in the air, yesterday I decided to layer & baste this quilt top I completed last December with the intention of having it quilted to use on my bed this winter
Inspired by Carolyn's book on utility quilting, the decision was also made to use cotton perle 8 and big stitch quilting for this top. If you haven't seen this book I can highly recommend it as a wonderful resource for hand quilting.
It is full of good information & techniques with clear step by step diagrams, which is perfect for a hand quilting novice like me.
Once the threads were selected I was on my way......
I'm really enjoying this big stitch quilting & think it suits this top as it has so much colour & pattern.

What a gorgeous quilt and the quilting with the perle cotton will make it even more perfect.
Oh, thanks for the tip on that book--I have ordered it in hopes that I can find a quilting method for my "Woven Wall"--since it was all done by hand...I love that quilt you made--It even looks "Warm". Julierose
I am going to order this book!~ I love the look!~ yes, the traditional way is lost and this is so much better. A technique I've not tried!~ Will have to buy some perle cotton. What needle do you use with it?

What a beautiful quilt! I think the big stitch quilting is the perfect choice for it. Think I'm going to have to get that book.
Hi Gisele! Read all your posts on this page and my goodness, you make such lovely quilts, the striped blocks (Love Lucy!!! those eyes are to drown in) and the one with the japanese template hmmm! Don't you just love to quilt big?! I plan on quilting my garden quilt with big stitches too, will be using the Valdani thread and making pictures this way. Was good to be back! Hugs, Daniëlle
