Back in 2010 when I first started dabbling with patchwork, this was one of the first books I bought & was totally inspired by this lady's amazing patchworks all done by hand which is what started me with my love of English Paper Piecing (EPP)

I have read this book many times from cover to cover & had one day planned to make this iconic quilt of hers........ The Patchwork of the Crosses

Well that day has come & I've finally made a start. 

For this quilt I've chosen to work mainly with Civil War reproduction fabrics from my stash although a few extra fat quarters may be acquired along the way, well we always need a bit more variety, don't we?

Here are the first few blocks: 

These 2" squares below are great for using up small scraps & really fun to fussy cut. They form the centres of what I call the connecting blocks or even could be considered as cornerstones between the main blocks 

Hmmmm..........I'm already seeing another quilt design forming using these fun squares, Watch this space!

Having way too much fun finding new designs to fussy cut for these rosettes.

At this stage I'm having to plan the colours & am finding a black & white image handy for deciding on value as well as colour placement.

La Passacaglia Millefiori quilt, Tessellations & Vintage Stars

Early April I completed my Vintage stars top & it has met with the quilt inspector's approval. I already have an idea how this will be hand quilted but that will have to wait for the winter. 

Remember these tessellation blocks from a 2010 BOM? Well, they've been sitting around already individually quilted just waiting for the right border as I really didn't like the fabric that had been supplied.

Last month inspiration finally struck, a few patterned EPP hexagons appliqued to some shot cotton ones....

and we had a plan to see this project on it's way to completion!

This pattern was designed by Willyne Hammerstein & can be found in her first book Millefiori Quilts published by Quiltmania. I had been waiting for the perfect project to dip in to my Tula Pink collection & this was it -  more EPP & lots of fussy cutting..... perfect!

Progress so far

EPP Fussy Cut Stars

Throughout 2014 I was following Temecula Quilt Co's posts Fussy Cut Fridays & just loved the variety of stars being produced. Being a huge fan of EPP I finally succumbed in September & started making stars from my stash of Civil War reproduction fabrics.

I also loved the setting they used & decided to follow the same pattern for joining my stars together. You only need two shapes for this pattern,  2inch 60 degree diamonds &  4inch hexagons. (measurements taken on the side of the shape)
Here's a few of my favorites so far:

I'm loving how this top is all coming together & already looking forward to hand quilting it when it's done.

So far all the stars are different & I've now exhausted my own repro stash, so, in order to have more variety I have purchased the odd 1800 remnant bag or two from Homestead Hearth. These bags are such good value & full of decent size scraps in a great mixture of fabrics which are perfect for making these stars.

The top is gradually growing to a decent size, hoping to make this large enough with a good drape for a double bed.
