The first 6 days worth of 4.5" blocks
Realizing I would end up with lots of neutral circle cut outs, I thought, what if I add these to the mix too? (I hate wasting fabric)
So this 4.5" x 8.5" block was born
Then I thought what if I throw in some bigger circles using up bits of made fabric from scraps a la Victoria Findlay Wolfe 15 minutes play time?
No waste here either as I can get a 4.5" background for a smaller circle block from the cutout
A few sewn together..........and here we may have the beginnings of a pattern for a quilt?
Not sure I'll be able to stick to making just one circle a day from now on though!
December 1st update:
Having started sewing circles on 5th November I'm now up to day 27. I'm counting each background piece of fabric (whether it contains one circle or three) as one day's work, so without further ado, here they are to date:
It's quite a nice process coming in from work each day & dipping into the Kaffe scraps to choose that evening's fabric for my daily circle & quite a relaxing bit of mindless stitching after a stressful day. I couldn't resist fussy cutting some of his bigger prints to throw in here & there as well.
Linking up to Quilty 365, thank you Audrey for the inspiration :)
Oh lovely variations...I like the triple moons,,,hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI love where you are going with the multiple sized circles, and what a beautiful way to use those gorgeous scraps.
ReplyDeletePretty clever to use the bits from the backs to make more circles! Like the different sizes you are using. Good job.
ReplyDeleteoh this is a fun one! :) It's so interesting seeing what everyone is doing with this! Love yours !
ReplyDeleteOh, beautiful! Your circles "à la Victoria" look fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Your circles look fabulous in the Kaffe fabric! Love the scrappy ones so much! Thanks for joining in.:)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are having fun and making good use of scraps! I hate waste too!
ReplyDeleteI am using my scraps to make more circles also - I'm using every little bit I have!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great design you have come up with. It makes me giggle that your circle are born from the backs of others. The never ending cycle of quilts.....
ReplyDeleteThis is great - I love your variations. I also hate wasting fabrics, and was thinking about whether I will use the cut-outs in some way - but I am going to wait till the end before I trim them out because I don't want my circle backgrounds to fray in the meantime
ReplyDeleteLove all your playtime circles! Fun!!
ReplyDeleteLove the different sizes of your circles.
ReplyDeleteI like the different size circle blocks. It is fun to see everyone's interruption of Quilty 365.
ReplyDeleteThese blocks are going to be so fun to layout! You have given me Kaffe-envy, you must have awesome scraps!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great variation on the theme. I especially like how you have mixed up both your sizes and the number of circles on each background piece. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI just saw that your other blog is glorious applique, I follow from time to time and love it.
ReplyDeleteThe Kaffe fabric scraps are just perfect to use up in this way - there are some great motifs aren't there? (I've got a few Kaffe's in mine, but not like this!) I love your idea for using up the back of the circles on the font too - waste not want not ingenuity! I really look forward to seeing it grow over the next few months, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteYour circles are terrific! I thought about using a larger circle to represent more than one day for those days when I am too busy to do individual circles, but I might also make a larger one when I am in the mood. I too like to make things out of the little scraps. That is a great idea to make bigger circles out of them.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I've been making some with different sized circles, too. But I hadn't considered making larger circles or using the cutout backs for the circles. Like you, the variation of block arrangements pleases me. Yours are so lovely and so much more considered in layout. Keep going! What fun to follow along. Thanks.
